DRV8814: Problem with Reset Pin of DRV8814

Part Number:DRV8814

Hi,

I am using drv8814 for my custom board. In order to reset motor driver independent of rest of the board I have connected Reset pin of DRV8814 (Pin 16 - nRESET) to reset switch with 100k pullup and 100nf capacitor between ground and Reset Pin. Below is schematic of circuit. Here mReset is connected with pin 16 of DRV8814. My problem is reset pin is showing 1.6 V instead of 3.3V and motor driver does not start. If i connect 3.3V directly to reset pin then it works perfectly. I have checked capacitor and resistor values and there is no issue in assembly. I cant figure out what is problem here.

DRV8825: PowerPAD Via Treatment

$

Part Number:DRV8825

I've been reviewing how I placed a DRV8825 on a PCB due to 6.5% from the production run getting solder "ball" shorts between the component leads and body at pins 3-4 and/or pins 11-12 and occasionally at the mirror image pins on the other side of the body.

TI documentation regarding how the vias in the PowerPAD are treated is inconsistent (DRV8825 datasheet, Application Brief: PowerPAD Made Easy, Application Report: PowerPAD Layout Guidelines, Application Report:  PowerPAD Thermally Enhanced Package).  Are they tented and if so, on which side?  Are they plugged or is small enough and open on top and bottom suitable?  What are possible side effects of doing it "incorrectly"?

Since the areas where the solder ball shorts occurred are near the corners of the PowerPAD, I think that my bottom tented 0.014" vias are causing solder to be pushed/burped out from underneath the device and the easiest place to break surface tension and release into a ball is at the corners.  Is this due to the tented vias being unable to wick solder and too much remains or possibly an effect of outgassing searching for a vent?  Paste stencil is 0.005" thick, so solder mask defined pad to stencil opening is 1:1.  Any recommendations on what to tweak before the next run?  What is really considered the standard design for the DRV8825 PowerPAD?

Part Number:DRV3220-Q1

Hi Safety Motor driver team,

I have some question regarding Boost converter diagnostic feature on DRV3220. Pls check and get back to your answer.

  1. How can check Boost converter OC failure condition when the current is over first threshold value with Rboost_Shunt? Customer set 0.45A with Rboost_shunt and want to know how to detect the Boost OC failure condition. Do you think it is not possible to detect the Boost OC with Rboost_shunt?

Customer is concern about No detection during Boost OC is occurred even though failure condition( Boost OC) is happened .

  2. If customer is not use first threshold(without Rboost_shunt), is there any side effect can be occurred when she use Second TH only as internal current limit?

  3. Seems that Boost Converter Over current second threshold value is fixed from 0.6A to 1A. Is the variation of value is depend on device deviation?

  4. I made table as below for Boost converter OV and OC. If there anything wrong or missing, pls correct me right.

DRV8872: Using DRV8872 with a Solenoid device

$

Part Number:DRV8872

I am interested in using the DRV8872 as H-Bridge circuit to power latching solenoids for about 100ms.

I am aware that it is used for motors, but can it also be adapted to solenoids?

The protection circuit, the data sheet mentioned if an fault is detected than the fault pin is forced low, till the fault condition is removed. When it mentions fault condition I am presuming that it means solving the issue for example if voltage is low then simply charging the device up would be solving the condition or if there is some form of short then to remove the short.

If a solenoid was not connected would it be able to show that as fault?

Would i be correct in saying that this IC also handle all the timing issues, so that no shorts happen between internal mosfets to GND?

Would someone mind reviewing the attached RevB schematic and gerbers for this updated Motor Driver Board?

My issue with this revision:  I need to drive the motor at 5000 RPM, but the driver board seems to be maxing out at around 2400 RPM.  I suspect it's hitting current limit, but not sure.  The motor is rated at 6000 RPM at 9 amps.  I have a .028 ohm current sense resistor.

DRV10983: Lock 2 on startup

Part Number:DRV10983

Hi,

We are driving a small BDCM with an impeller.  Normal operation is fine, but occasionally we get false starts where the motor rotates at low speed and lock2 comes on.  This situation can be provoked by providing speed demand when the motor has been spinning and is still slowing down (nearly stopped) when the speed voltage is increased again. I have tried unchecking some of the lock detects but the problem persists.  Taking the speed voltage to zero clears the condition.

TPIC2060A: Speed and phase control of the spindle output

Part Number:TPIC2060A

Hello,

I am working on finding a high current (~3amps) 3 phase motor drive chip that can achieve speed and phase lock control from 90Hz through 240Hz.  We need to be able to update the spindle DAC at least every 4 milliseconds or every revolution to adjust for speed and phase error within ~5us of each revolution.  I have achieved this with other 12V drivers with a 12 bit DAC, but I am wondering if this chip would be fast enough in response time.

Would this, or any of the other TPIC20xx support this type of functionality?

Thanks for the help!

DRV8701: Maximum frequency of PWM input?

$

Part Number:DRV8701

I assume that if we want to PWM the input to the DRV8701P, to control the average drive level, we'd hold one of the INx lines low and drive PWM into the other INx line.  Assuming this is correct, what is the upper limit for the frequency of that PWM?  Is it simply a calculation based on the switching characteristics, including min. dead time, of the chip and the FETs?  Or are there other considerations?

Thanks,

Scott

Part Number:DRV8711

Hello

My doubt number 1 is in DIR / STEP mode after I turn off the driver power
Will I lose all parameterization done previously?

To 2 the parameterization software only communicates with the DRV8711 through the MSP430 or I can use a USB / SPI adapter to parameterize the DRV8711 using the software

thank you

DRV8825: motor driver not work after 2nd time power up...

Part Number:DRV8825

Dear Sirs,

My customer use DRV8825 for their motor driver.

As customer feedback, while the first time power up, the driver and motor work fine.

However, they must delay next power up from first time, otherwise, the driver will no output then the motor cannot work.

The delay time needs around 10~20sec.

Once power up from long time power off, the first time must work without issue.

Please help to give me some advice for troubleshooting.

The customer schematics as attached file.

Thanks.

DRV8303EVM: Issue with Speed Ref. POT interfacing

Part Number:DRV8303EVM

Hi TI Engineer,

We are evaluating the DRV8303 EVM for BLDC drive and i found that the connection of the Speed Control POT (R62 as per BOM in slvc598 folder) are such that it leads to a 3v3 GND short condition. The PCB connections are as per schematic. Please clarify about connections.

I wish to interface this (or another) POT in InstaSPIN BLDC software package. Request your guidelines for interface.

Which variable gives converted digital output of ADC BO pin? Do you recommend the use of external POT with other ADC interface pin? Suggest required changes in software.

Thanks & Regards,

Part Number:DRV11873EVM

Hello.

Is it possible to change register settings on this DRV11873 chip with the EVM module?

I have a DRV10983 register settings that I need to copy and apply to my recently acquired DRV11873EVM in order to run my motor in the exact manner as it was driven by the DRV10983
