DRV8845: DRV8845RHHR

Part Number: DRV8845

Hi,

We have used DRV8845RHHR in our project to drive stepper motor having following specifications.

1) No of phase - 2

2) Phase voltage - 6.6V

3) Phase current - 1A

4 ) Phase resistance - 6.6ohms

5) Size : NEMA 17

The applied voltage on VM1 and VM2 pins is 11.5V.

The VREFX reference voltage pins are connected to PWM outputs of microcontroller for which the VOH logic level is 3.3V.

We have used voltage divider ckt and adjusted VREF voltage of 1.47V on all VREFX pins.

All sense pins have 0.47 ohms 1 watt resistor to GND.

The maximum itrip calculated is ITRIPMax = VREF / (3 × RSENSE)

                                                                    = 1.47/(3 x 0.47)

                                                                    = 1.04A

The maximum power to stepper motor is 6.6W as mentioned in the above motor specifications.

How much PWM duty cycle should be set on Vrefx pins to limit the maximum power of 6.6W to motor with above stepper motor specifications?

Also provide calculations for the same.

KIRAN SURVE

Hi TI

I use DRV8714 driver a MOS(parameter shows at below picture),but the rise time of gate isn't meet calculation.

Qgd = 9nC,Vsupply=16VDC,IDRVP_x=1111b = 62 mA (2.3 mA),Trise=Qgd / IDRVP_x=9nC / 62mA=145ns,but my test Trise is 470ns.

My requirement is decrease Trise as much as possible,is there any method?

DRV2700: Used to operate LCG Smart Glass

Part Number: DRV2700
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV2667

Excuse my ignorance here as I am new to a lot of this. I had seen a video of TI using this to operate LCG Smart Glass and am looking for a similar situation but not sure I fully understand it. Most of what I have seen and what little I know it seems it is DC input. And I believe the Piazzo is mimicking an AC output? As the Smart Glass I have seen, their controllers are saying the output is 70VAC Square Wave 25/30/32/50/60Hz.. Would this unit powered by 5v DC be able to achieve the 70VAC needed to operate the Smart Glass? As to my novice level I have only seen inverters to transform the DC to AC. I have looked into the H Bridge bu again still in beginners steps so please be patient with me! Thank you everyone!!

Hi -

Customer trying to use online GUI for both the DRV8234EVM and DRV8242H-Q1EVM. They can use downloadable GUI without issue, but web GUI problematic. They think it may have to do with the company IT firewalls.

Any ideas on what they can try?

Part Number: DRV8245-Q1

Hello,

I have been unable to make the HW variant of the DRV8245 work.  A partial schematic is attached below as a PNG file.

1)  the unpopulated PCB ohms out per the schematic

2) the populated PCB ohms out sensibly per the schematic

3) the load connected on J9 is a 12 VDC motor that draws about 1.2 A.  The following conditions are seen if the motor is connected, but also if nothing is connected to J9

4) correct voltages are seen on all the input pins

5) nFAULT is always asserted (low) regardless of the state of IN2

6) OUT1 and OUT2 voltages are both around 0.3 V

7) IPROPI is 0 V

8) ITRIP = 6.25 V whereas the data sheet gives an absolute max rating of 5.75 V.

9) The IC is cold to the touch at all times

10) R27 is now 1k0 (on nFAULT), and there is a 100 nF cap now in parallel with R25 (for IPROPI)

11) the +5 V and +12 V supplies power up at the same time

I have been unable to figure this out and am hoping that someone can offer me guidance.

Thanks,
Phillip

1. tWAKE and tSLEEP verification results are inconsistent with datasheet.

datasheet P9, wakeup time should <1ms, sleep pulse time should>120us ; The actual wakeup time measured is 1.74ms and tSleep is 86.7uS. Please confirm whether the test result is correct.

2. Timing diagram of Hall sensor. In datasheet P25, the hall signal of DIR=0 and DIR= 1 is the same. It should actually be inconsistent. The actual signal is shown below. DIR=0 on the left and DIR=1 on the right, please confirm.

3. MCT8316ZTEVM evaluation module User's Guide P18, whether the calculation formula of Motor speed is wrong.

The actual formula used by the GUI should look like the following figure

MCF8316A: Motor keeps trying to start, but cannot advance to closed loop

Part Number: MCF8316A

Hi,

I have built a breakout that is very similar to the evaluation board and I can communicate with the controller over I2C. I set up the recommended default values and I can read them back.

When I try to start the MPET algorithm, I always get MPET_FAULT error. I searched the forum for a long time and tried many suggestions, but I cannot get the motor to start. Unfortunately, it does not have a datasheet, so I can only measure the Rph and Lph values and I also measured the Ke back EMF constant, so that I can skip the MPET algorithm. Still, after setting the measured values, the motor does not spin up, it only tries to start over and over again. I also tried to set Kp=10 and Ki=1, but still no success.

I'm using a a salvaged BLDC motor from a floppy drive, it has 3 pins with 4 pole pairs.

I measured the voltage on one of the phases and the signal looks like this:

Can you give me guidance on how to get the motor spinning?

Best regards,

Tibor

Hello.

I would like to ask about DRV8245-Q1 device.

1. In SPI(P), (VM undervoltage translators) is a question about how long and how much voltage it is.

2. Apart from the SPI connection, which pins should be essential to the MCU? Is there any function that SPI can replace?

  - EN/IN1, PH/IN2, nSLEEP, nFAULT

3. I would like to ask if I can use more than 5.5A continuously (1oz 6Layer)

DRV8889-Q1: low temp. question

Part Number: DRV8889-Q1

Dear team,

Tests found that the DRV8889-Q1 cannot diagnose open circuit faults below -30 degrees Celsius, but it can still drive the motor. (Open circuit can be diagnosed at room temperature.)

The low temperature of -30 degrees is lower than the under-temperature warning threshold TUTW[-25 -10 5]. How to explain this problem?

Hi, Team

Hope you are doing well!

I have one question about our DRV8908-Q1:

The Pin15 of our DRV8908-Q1 is NC, is there any risk to connect the NC Pin to GND?

(Based on the data sheet, it says "Not connected".)

DRV8870: DRV8870 for use in single direction with MOSFET between Motor and OUT2 pin.

$

Part Number: DRV8870

I am working on a project where I plan to use the DRV8870 motor driver to control multiple motors (14 DC brushed motors) in a single direction. I intend to connect the DRV8870's OUT1 to the input pins of 14 motors, using a shared trace for all motor inputs. Each motor's output pin will then connect to the drain of an individual MOSFET, with the source of each MOSFET connecting back to the DRV8870's OUT2. Only one motor is to be operated at a time, and thus only one MOSFET will be active at a time.

For my application, I will not require bidirectional control of the motors, and I plan to permanently set the IN2 pin low to disable the reverse direction. I have a few questions regarding this setup:

  1. Are there any concerns or potential issues with permanently pulling the IN2 pin low in the configuration I described?
  2. Since the motors will only operate in one direction, and the output MOSFETs will not be switching but rather will either be pulled high or low, are there any asynchronous switching issues I should be aware of?
  3. Is there any additional advice or precautions you would recommend for this type of setup?

Thank you

MCT8329A: DC_BUS_CURR / 256 not showing correct current value

$

Part Number: MCT8329A

Hi!

I'm experiencing some problems reading the bus current from MCT8329 in a full custom application.

Reading Sys_Status1 returns the correct bus voltage. However when I read Sys_Status3 the DC_BUS_CURR is much too low (yes I divided by 256). I'm wondering in what way the MCT knows about the current in the system. It must be measured by the voltage drop over the shunt?! In my application the shunt is 750uR. So there must be a register, to set the shunt value for correct calculation inside the MCT. But this register doesn't exist (at least in the datasheet). I don't assume, that the MCT use some sophisticated algorithms to determine the real value of Rshunt....

So how do I calculate the correct bus current from DC_BUS_CURR for an arbitrary RShunt?

Kind regards,

Jonas

DRV8329AEVM: Current Sense not working on evaluation board

Part Number: DRV8329AEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LAUNCHXL-F280049C

Hello,

I am testing DRV8329AEVM with LAUNCHXL-F280049C.  I was able to spin the motor using an example program for the BLDC trap drive but I have an issue sensing the phase current. The output of the DRV8329A seems to be always stuck around 0.4V regardless of the motor phase current.  See the plot below.

Would you be able to let me know what might be going on here?

DRV8353RS-EVM: Program has compiled correctly, but the BLDC is still not moving

Part Number: DRV8353RS-EVM

Currently with the EVAL firmware pulled from the EVM's site, everything has compiled correctly. The only issue is when using the DRV8353Rx GUI, there seems to be no action happening. Following the DRV8353Rx-EVMInstaSPIN SoftwareQuickStartGuide instructions, the Controller state goes online, the Estimator State goes through different transitions, the Trajectory Reference goes up to the Speed Reference, but a Speed Error of the same RPM matches it qualifying for 0 RPMs. I have 31V powering the board with a 7A current limit, but current has yet to get above 0A. I'm not sure what else needs to be changed to the firmware or the hardware setup to get this moving.

Part Number: DRV8323

Hi Team,

My customer came to me with some questions on our DRV8323HRTAR for their design.
They found that the direction of the current in the shunt resistor reverses with each positive edge of the three Hall signals. This behavior does not occur with the negative edge:

They are using the DRV8323HRTAR with the 1xPWM mode.

Can you help me to understand this behavior? Are they doing something wrong? How can they solve this problem?

Thanks!

Alfred
