Part Number: DRV8871-Q1

Dear, Sir.

My customer is considering to apply DRV8871-Q1 for their system.

They don't have an experience for thermal pad soldering because the inspection

is impossible. So, they are asking about the thermal performace degradation

without thermal pad soldering.

The datasheet defines Rth-ja, Rth-jc(top), etc.

Could you please provide the thermal performance degradation data without thermal pad

soldering if you have.

Sorry to ask about this kind of matter, hoping to get your advice.

Best Regards,

H. Sakai

HELLO

When we used the SDK which ti provide to us,we find out we can not use main domain R5F mcu2_1 to connect the mcan transfer (1042) which on EVM Board now .

We want to use main domain R5F mcu2_1 to control  the mcu domain mcan 0 and mcu domain mcan 1 which is used by mcu domain R5F now.

Can ti provide a demo which can help us use the main domain R5F mcu2_1 to connect the mcan transfer.

thank you!!

Hello

We find out TI's SDK doesn't have the ipc demo between the A72 and MCU DOMAIN R5F (mcu1_0).

Can TI have a ipc demo to help us transfer the message between the A72 and MCU  DOMAIN R5F (mcu 1_0)?

thank you !!

Part Number: DRV8320

Hi,

My customer found the phenomenon which the rising wave of SDO become slow when he use 10K ohms pullup resistor. Once he use 1K ohms resistor, it would be improved. His application has 18pF in SDO line. Unfortunately, there is no information to show the resistor value.  Customer would like to realize the square wave in SDO and work it faster.

- Do you have recommend resistor value?
- Do you have any idea to realize square waveform in SDO?
- Could you please measure the waveform of SDO in TI environments?

Regards,
Nagata.

DRV8711: DRV8711 FET driver damage

Part Number: DRV8711

Dears,

we use DRV8711 motor controller in our product.

The product has a higher failure rate of DRV8711: the driver of the FET transtistor high side of the bridge is randomly damaged. Sometimes the one driver of HS transistor, sometimes three HS drivers, sometimes all four, are damaged on the controller. The damaged DRV8711 driver is not able to sufficiently open the FET high side of the bridge. As a result, there will be a large voltage drop on FET and the announcement of FAULT OCP. Everything works OK after replacing the DRV8711 controller. FET transistors are OK. Capacitors CP and VCP are OK. The power supply on the VM DRV8711 terminal is without voltage peaks.
Picture output voltage of damaged driver A1HS:

Parameters of our application:

VM +44V
FET PSMN045-80 (gate-drain charge 3.1nC ; total gate charge 12.5 nC)
Rgate 33Ω
Rsense 80mΩ (Inductance less than 5 nH, BOURNS CRA2512-FZ-R080ELF)
Iout max. 3A
IDRIVEN          0x00      100 mA Low-side gate drive peak current
IDRIVEP          0x00      50 mA High-side gate drive peak current

When we were looking for the cause, we checked the voltage waveforms on a good piece. On DRV8711 we measured very short negative peaks -5V / 10ns on AOUTx, BOUTx terminals and -2,5V / 10ns on AISENP, BISENP terminals.
Can these spikes cause the DRV8711 damage described above?
What else may be causing DRV8711 damage?

Thank you for your answer.

Michal

DRV8837: Bulk capacitance and max current drawn

$

Part Number: DRV8837

Hello,

I want to ask about the max current that is drawn from my system using DRV8837. From the related question that previously has been verified I think a new topic is more suitable so the discussion can be focus.

From my previous related question, I tested my system at stall and the drop voltage on the driver (Rds) is quite high.

As a summary, I use a motor with rated voltage of 3.5 V and the stall current at 3.87 A.

  • If I drive the driver with 6.0 V then stall the motor, the stall current provided by driver is about 1.7 A
  • If I drive the driver with 3.5 V then stall the motor, the stall current provided by driver is about 1.2 A

I'm confused with this not so ideal result. The datasheet for DRV8837 states that the amount of local capacitance needed depends on a variety of factors such as the highest current required by the motor system.

So my question is:

  1. Based on the experiment, even at 3.5V I can't maximize the DRV8837 to at least close to its max current 1.8 A. I thought that should not be so low, probably around 1.5A.
Does this has anything to do with the bulk capacitance? In other words, does the local bulk capacitance can determine the max continuous current that can be delivered by the driver?

As a note, I check the schematic and the driver block only has 0.1uF capacitor on its VM pin. There is a 10uF capacitor however that is on the input of the system that feeds to buck converter input. The input (+) side is parallel to VM on DRV8837 and VIN on buck converter (intended for battery positive terminal).

Kind regards,
Pranata

DRV8873: internal connection of SRC and GND

Part Number: DRV8873

Hi to all,

I would need some help help comment/answering following request from customer:

They are using DRV8873 and since they have analog circuits on the same PCB, they would like to connect the SRC pins separately from the "normal" ground to a power-ground polygon.
Is the GND and SRC of DRV8873 also separated internally or are they somehow connected?

They would like to connect GND and the heat pad at the bottom of the DRV8873 to the heat sink with the normal ground on the PCB, which is also the reference potential for the other digital and analog circuits.
No high currents are allowed to flow over the normal ground polygon.

Could someone help me comment this for customer?

Many thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Brian

DRV8876: Fault Pin is not driven low when a Over Current fault occurs

Part Number: DRV8876

I am using the DRV8876 and I am not seeing the fault line go low when an over-current event occurs as is stated from the datasheet.  I am setting I-Mode to Hi-Z so the device should disable the h-bridge devices and set the fault pin low.  I am seeing the same issue when looking at the evaluation kit for the the DRV8876.

Thanks for any help.

DRV8308EVM: Problem with the supplied Application

Part Number: DRV8308EVM

Hi,

I've been struggling with the software for the DRV8308EVM.  I finally obtained a PC with just a standard installation of Windows 10, with no additional applications installed.  I have downloaded the EVM software off the TI page for the device and it appears to install correctly.

However, when I run it, I get an error message that "nw.exe cannot be found".  It can't seem to find this off the Web or anywhere on the PC so the App aborts.  I've previously tried many different angles, using Admin privileges, disabling security software, etc. but I always end up stuck at this point.

Searching for nw.exe brings up some pretty strange information, with many saying this is potential malware.  What is this mysterious file and where can I find it?  I would have thought the installer would be self-contained and provide what's needed.

I'm pretty frustrated at this point and have to say that this is the first TI product that I've used that hasn't worked.  Your help is most appreciated!

Thanks.

Hello Team,

Our haptics drvier suggest using 100kOhm+470pF to filter the switching waveform, and the scope get 1Mohm input resistance, then this cause 1% error, I wander why it's 1%, since a divider of 100k and 1Mohm would cause ~9% error, does this make sense? The following is from DRV2605.

DRV8320: high voltage problems

Part Number: DRV8320

Hello!

I'm currently using the DRV8320S for bldc drone motor control and have some questions about how does it work

  1. When I scoped waveforms on the transistor gates on low and high sides I saw that amplitudes of the first and the second impulses are almost 20V. Is it normal behavior? Can these high-voltage impulses damage transistors? Amplitudes of other control impulses on transistor gates are pretty normal except some level oscillations.
  2. The system's maximum working voltage is about 50V. Under 40V everything worked pretty well but when I tried 48V, smoke came out of driver after several seconds of working. What could be a reason for this? All transistors are 75V rated. There is a good practice in power designs for transistors to have voltage margin of at least 1/3 of their maximum ratings. Is this rule applied to TI's smart gate drivers? I didn't found any mentions of that in technical documents.

Hi,

I am using DRV8701E to drive 60A current rating motor by connecting mosfet in parallell. Everything works as expected. Now i want to monitor current using SP and SN across current sense resistor of 250 uOhm

value.SO pin is connected to ADC pin of controller.

Will this connection work because drop across is in sense is few micro or mili volt.

Part Number: DRV2700

Dear Specialists,

we would be grateful if you could advise。 How to use  DRV2700 for piezo driver with High voltage(1000V ac@flyback mode) and we have some questions and want some design information(For example: calculation of parameter design, but the user guide is not given ).

According to the datasheet P.12 8.4.2 Flyback Mode, DRV2700 can drive 1000V output by using Flyback mode,but  "slou407a" user guide is not given  about transformer design information, only feedback network parameter modification is given.then we use the TINA-TI Reference Design "slom404.tsc",we aslo couldn't find 1000V output(about 600V) by  feedback network parameter modification(R5 is changed from 5.11k to2.56k, C5 is changed from 8.2nF to 16.2nF,the other parameters remain the same).

we questions as foollow :

1.  I'd like to know about transformer, because I couldn't find 1000V output by Flyback mode.

2. how to choose  transformer  saturation current ,turns ratio  and inductance value , etc  ?   Reference Design "slom404.tsc" is simple inductance and mutual inductance,we want to know transformer parameter for   1000V output by Flyback mode.

3. Is also  there a detailed user's manual for the design of 1000v output by Flyback mode, which contains the calculation of the whole Flyback mode circuit parameter design, we want do WCA (Worst case analysis) .

I appreciate your great help in advance.

Best regards,

yunbai qin
