Colleagues,
I’m designing a circuit which will drive a small BDC (brushed DC) motor. The motor needs to turn only in one direction. The stall current is 1.5 A, and the nominal running current is 0.25 A. Furthermore, I’ll attempt to limit the start-up current to 0.5 A.
Can one DRV8830 be used as two half-bridges in parallel?
I would connect OUT1 and OUT2 together on the PCB. Then I would connect the motor between the OUT1+2 and the GND.
I’ve done the parallel half-bridges configuration a few years ago with the DRV8850, and that worked. DRV8850, however, has less built-in control than the DRV8830. I like that DRV8830 is configurable through I2C and has a DAC for adjusting current threshold.
Best regards,
- Nick
