MCF8316A: Position control of motor possible?

HI Experts,

Customer wants to use MCF8316A, it's a BLDC driver. We wonder if position control of the motor can be made or not.

Please confirm. They want to control a linear motor with this chip. Do you think it's possible to control position for a linear motor? Sharing you a simple drawing attached.

I am seeing THIS post also, that it is not possible but the original linked above seems possible.
