DRV8462EVM: Testing Step/Dir mode with an external MCU

Good morning,

I was wondering if there was a quick way to evaluate the DRV8462EVM in step/dir mode using an external MCU.

We aren't going to be using it in SPI mode, and we wanted to quickly test a few things. I've programmed a CC3235SF to set nSLEEP to low, ENABLE to high, DIR to low, and then to pulse the step pin on the DRV8462EVM. Is there a way to interface to the DRV8462EVM like this?
