DRV8711 EVM - Pulls down voltage on power supply from 24V to 7V when I enable the driver.

I am having trouble troubleshooting my DRV8711EVM board. My bench top power supply drops from 24V to 7V as soon as I send the enable signal to the driver over SPI.
 

Iam worried that the DRV8711 IC might be broken. Is there any way in which I can test if the IC is defective?

I am setting up the registers with all the default values over SPI. I confirmed with a logic analyzer that the expected SPI values are sent over. When I send an enable signal, the power supply's voltage drops and the FAULTn light switches on. The stepper motor then makes a high pitched sound.
