DRV8825: Chip VM pin voltage selection issue

Part Number: DRV8825
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8424

Hi team,

The stepper motor specifications: 4.9 V rated, 0.7 A rated, phase resistance 7 ohm.

And the customer has the following 3 questions:

1.The specification for DRV88x states that the output voltages are all internally connected to the VM. Does this mean that when selecting a drive stepper motor chip, it is important to consider matching the VM voltage of the chip to the motor's rated voltage? (Although it is often said that a stepper motor is a constant current drive)

2. With DRV8825, VM to 12 V, can the 5-V stepper motor work properly by configuring output 0.7A?

3. Continuing with point 2, if the VM must match the stepper motor voltage rating, what will happen to the stepper motor when the 8825 is connected to 12 V and the output is configured at 0.7 A?

Could you help check this case? Thanks.

Best Regards,

Cherry
