BOOSTXL-DRV8320S: SLx feedback strictly necessary?

Looking at the DRV8320 functional block diagram, I see the SLx low-side FET source feedback lines are routed to the gate driver block, but there isn't any additional information on what these feedback signals are used for. Are routing these lines strictly necessary? I could save some layout complexity by disregarding these lines
