Part Number:DRV11873

Dear all,

I have this hobby motor A10-7L with following specs:

Powerangemax. 75W (15 sec.)
Idle Current @ 8,4V1,1A
Resistance (Ri)0,11 Ohm
RPM/Volt (kv)2200 U/min-1
Weight20g
Diameter21 mm
Length25 mm
Poles12-Pole Outsiderunner
recom. Speedcontroler4A to 7A Brushless
recom. Timing20° - 25°

I'm using a hobby ESC with specs:
Technical Data

  • Input Voltage 6-12.6 VDC, 2-3 Li-Po cells
  • Input rate range 50-400Hz
  • Output Current 10 Amps Continous, 12 Amps Burst (10 Sec.)
  • BEC Output 5.0 Volts at 2 Amps
  • Dimensions 35 x 24 x 8 mm
  • Weight 12 g

Chaning the duty cycle (Pulse Width) with a servo tester (, I'm not able to get speeds lower than +- 2400 rpm (the motor only starts to spin at +-1300micro sec pulse width (or giving a longer pulsewidth, the motor starts to spin faster), going below 1500 microsec. towards 900 microsec pulse width, the motor does not slow down and keeps spinning at the same speed compared to 1500 microsec, maybe the ESC is the problem, because BLDC  RC plane engines do not need to spin at low speeds ?

By using the TI DRV11873 sensorless motor controller, will I be able to control the motor at lower speeds? The optimal RPM range i would need is 100 rpm - 10000 rpm (with intervals of 50 or 100 rpm)

Will this Texas Instruments device help me out? Chaning the motor to a lower Kv rate motor is not a solution for me, as RPM's of 8200 need to be reached.

Kind regards,

Jonah
