CCS/DRV8711: Serial monitor on sample code

Hi all,

I'am analyzing the sample code supplied with the  BOOST-DRV8711. I can't understand how serial monitor and serial commands work:

inside the code there are global variables for parameters manage, like G_DIR_AIN2, G_nSLEEP, etc, I can't find where and when these variables are written/read by serial command from host computer. I saw that the  monitor.c file never refers to these variables but only to the MCU memory space. The host manage directly the MCU memory space? If so,how can the host know the variables position inside the MCU memory?
