DRV8711: Question about stepper motor in Stationary mode

HI,

I am new to driving the stepper motor. I have a design which using DRV8711 to driver a stepper motor with battery power. so the power consumption is a big concern for me.

When motor is driving, I send fixed frequency pulses to the STEP pin of the DRV8711.

Now my question is, what is the DRV8711 driver behavior when the motor in stationary mode? 

my understanding is, to hold the moving part, the motor coil still need energized when motor is in stationary. But if there is no pulse coming in to DRV8711, what kind MOSFET driving circle the DRV8711 will behave?  If the DRV8711 turn on the H-bridge all time, the overcurrent protection will kick in. then what?
