Part Number:DRV8301
Hi Folks,
first of all, sorry if my question is not related directly to TI and its products, but I have not found more suitable forum.
My situation is: I have to design a servo drive for position control. To sense the correct position information I wanted to use optical quadrature encoder. To do it, I plan to use BLDC motor with FOC control loop to get the maximal torque. I know the fundamental of these control element, however as I read the literature, I am confused about 3 phase current & voltage measurement and shaft position.
To implement FOC, during Park transformation I have to know the exact position of the shaft which is known in my case because of the optical encoder. On the other hand, I saw lots of BLDC drive designs that includes measurement of current and voltage for all the 3 phases.
My question is: does these 3 phase current + voltage feedback information provides additional information in my case? Does it helps me to have better servo control (smoother torque, speed, whatever) or does they result equivalent like 2 phase current information and optical encoder?
Please keep in mind that I need position control so optical encoder (or equivalent position sensing feedback) is always present.
