DRV8842: Issue with current spikes during current chopping

Part Number:DRV8842

Hello All,

I am working on a new product using the DRV8842 driver.  My application is driver a brushed DC motor at 24V.  I have my current chop threshold set at 4.7A.  The application is very low duty cycle.

As in most applications, the startup exceeds the design current, and hence the DRV8842 is going into current chopping, which is fine.  However, the current chopping is causing 12A spikes, which I believe is the cause of my frequent driver faults.  I have verified the ringing is real by using three different methods of capturing the current waveform.  I believe the 3uS fault blanking time is too short to avoid faulting on the spikes.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,

Kevin
