DRV8376-Q1: Partial power to device for status check

Tool/software:

We are considering using the DRV8376-Q1 (or something close).  We will have 3.3V available for our circuits prior to application of the motor drive voltage (which will be about 28V).  We would like to be able to check as much as possible as early as possible.  I do not suppose we could backfeed the 3.3V output of the DRV8376-Q1 and talk to the device (through SPI) to at least verify some portion of the driver, can we?
