DRV8803: PPAD connection

HI, 

In out PCB we have separate internal layer of copper to conduct the heat other than GND plane. In such case is it mandetory to connect DRV8803 PPAD to GND plane or it can be connected to any other (Floating) plane which conducts heat. 

Kindly clarify.
