BOOST-DRV8711: MSP 430 to DRV8711 device selection

Greetings,

I have a BOOST-DRV8711 which comes with a sample project designed on the MSP430G2553. This performs correctly.

I need to add additional functionality such as an Encoder and Load Cell to the system.

To facilitate I purchased a MSP-EXP430-FR5994 because of its expanded capabilities. I translated all the G2553 port configurations/IO to a comparable port on the FR5994 but so far have not been successful in driving the DRV8711. 

Before I continue down this path is the FR5994 suitable for this type of application? If not what would you recommend to handle a DRV8711 + quad Encoder + Load Cell?
