Hello.

On the first test of the DRV8870 Eval Board I noticed acoustic noise on the motor.

After measuring the 555 output, it is around 2.8KHz, but as stated on the DRV8870EVK manual, it would be aprox 25KHz: "...The “PWM” signal generated by the onboard circuitry EVM is approximately 25 kHz"

Please comment.

Driver selection for BLDC application

I have maxon flat motor EC90 (Part number: 244879) BLDC being used for a AUV application. It runs at 48V, with a nominal speed = 1610RPM, nominal torque = 533mNm, and nominal current = 2.27V. It is a sensored BLDC. Could you suggest solutions that would be appropriate for this type of motor and application?

I have been looking at the DRV8303 but I'm not quite sure what kind of controller is necessary for this. Is INSTASPIN-BLDC necessary? Ultimately, we need to control the speed of the motor based on our guidance/navigation control system.

Dear Sirs,

Please help to update the DRV5013 FA version status.

My customer needs higher sensitivity DRV5013 and found DRV5013FA is OK for them.

However, FA version is in preview now.

They needs its status to know if it is suitable for them on schedule issue.

Thanks.

DRV8308 Mysterious Short

Hi,

I am using the DRV8308 to control some sensored brushless DC motors.  I have followed the application schematic in the datasheet closely.  Here is my schematic from my board.

(Please visit the site to view this file)

I have printed this board and assembled the motor controller portion of it.  When I test for shorts I get a short from VCC_MOT to MGND.  When I remove the current sense resistor the short goes away.  It is not a caused by a solder bridge.  I have tested the MOSFETs and it doesn't seem like any of them are shorted.  The only way I can see this happening is it the high and low sides of the bridges were open at the same time.

The motor was not plugged in for these tests.  They are very expensive and I don't want to risk hurting them until I know the driver is safe.

Can someone tell me what is wrong with this schematic?

Problem with (DRV8701 + MOSFET) connected to a DC motor load

Dear TI team,

I have used your DRV8701E IC to build my DC motor(18V~40V, 10A, 820N) Full bridge control using NXP MOSFET (PSMN014-40YS) .

I have used your DRV8701 evaluation board as circuit reference for my design and i have verified the HW for proper connection.

Currently I am am able to drive the MOSFET under no load (i.e. when DC motor is not Connect).

So when VM is 20V at Idrive (150 / 300 mA) and I get perfect output of +20V on forward drive or -20V on Reverse Drive, when there is no Load.

Gate drive  (GHx 0v to 9.5v and GLx switched from 9.5V to 0)

The moment I connect the DC motor, The output Voltage drops to +1.5V and -1.5V and current saturate to 0.1A.

Gate drive  (GHx 0 -->0.8 and GLx switches from 9.2 --> 8.2)

I know for a fact, the MOSFET PSMN014-40YS with traditional NPN gate drive circuit works fine with this DC motor. So i am guessing there is something wrong in the design.

Could you please help me.

Regards

Sugandar

driver a 5 coil micromotor ( that have coil in a delta mode )

Hello.
for my nephew who has a micro drone quad,
as well as repair she asked me to improve it.

The average life of a brush motor is really short.

He does not want another toy, he wants to improve what he has.

I started to edit the brush motors in a brushless, it is really simple:

Even fly it easily if they have 3 windings.

The minimum size is 3x2 mm for now:

The problem is how to drive 5 windings in delta mode:

Transforming the winding in a Y configuration is also possible but so too complicated, given the size of the tiny engine.

Any suggestions about a chip / circuit for a 5 winding delta mode
about 5Vdc and 500mA ?

InstaSPINT Motor Control Solutions for BLDC Halbach electric motor - Service Request number 1-2148313402

Dear Ladies and Gentleman,

The electric motor, a customer gave us, looks like the motor in the patent US 7,598,646 B2 (www.google.ch/.../US7598646)

and comprises the following parts:

a)       a first plurality of permanent magnets arranged in a first Halbach array, wherein the first plurality of magnets is configured to provide a first magnetic field that substantially exhibits a first Halbach flux distribution;

b)      a first plurality of electromagnets comprising a first plurality of coils arranged in a second Halbach array.

The Halbach array is a special formation of magnets used to guide the magnetic fields to create a strong sinusoidal magnetic field below the array while nearly cancelling the magnetic fields above the array.

A basic Halbach array is made of 5 magnets: http://cegt201.bradley.edu/projects/proj2004/maglevt1/halbachbe.html

How to control this Halbach electromagnetic motor with the DRV8305N 3-Phase Motor Drive BoosterPack Evaluation Module combined with InstaSPIN-FOC enabled C2000 Piccolo LaunchPad?

A basic array enables to drive a motor in both directions (see image below).

The 3 phase motor has a total of 36 Halbach array electromagnetic cores (effectively 18 vertical primary electromagnetic cores) to enable the unidirectional and magnified Halbach Array effect.

Can I use 3 electro magnets for each direction? Or do I have to connect only two electro magnets for each direction?

 Best Regards,

Murat Topcu

DRV8301 Fault

We are working with the DRV8301 eval board which is part of the Motor Drive Booster Pack. We are interfacing this board with an STM controller eval board that we are using in our project. We are facing the following issues while testing on the Eval board. Below are the details of the test setup and the environment.

Test Setup:

DRV8301 is connected to STM32F072 controller eval board with SPI lines and EN_GATE. We are not using the Buck converter module of the IC.

Observations:

1)      The Fault pin of DRV8301 is High (Fault LED is OFF) when the controller has not started the communication with the DRV.

2)      The Fault pin turns low (Fault LED is ON) when the device is reset using EN_GATE, with the help of controller.

3)      We tried to give PWM input to the driver but the Gate drive output was not reflecting the same. We assume it’s because our Fault LED shows a fault.

Types of Reset performed:

1.)    Soft reset to EN_GATE (less than 10us).

2.)    Long reset to EN_GATE (more than 20us).

3.)    GATE_RESET using SPI registers.

Tests performed over above observations:

We tried to read the Status register (both 1 and 2) using SPI. But status registers don’t indicated any fault (as none of the fault bit its set).

Please suggest how to clear the fault condition. So that we can start working and get it driving the motor (with load). The above fault conditions are without motor.

Thanks,

Neeraj

WSON-8 conversion board?

I want to evaluate the DRV8837, but the WSON-8 is so small.

TIs development board has its own uC and software, I need to use mine.

Does anyone make a WSON-8 to DIP board (with suggestions on how to put the chip on it)?

Thanks, K.Sargent

DRV8881E / nFAULT

Hi Team,

I understood nFAULT pin will be driven low when VM pin falls below the undervoltage lockout threshold voltage(6.4V max).
If VM gradually falls continuously less than 6.4V, when does nFault go to Hi-Z?

I believe nFAULT pin will be Hi-Z if VM pin falls low enough to 6.4V.
I assume nFault pin is pull-up to VM pin in this case.

DRV8412 Sense resistor current

Hello,

I have following two question on DRV8412DDW Evaluation board.

(1) I am driving DC brushed motor in forward direction -I am seeing PWM signal on PWMA and nothing on PWMB as expected. Why do i measure current passing through both sense resistor mean resistor R52 and R53?

(2) I am using very small motor -24V- 0.35 Amp (max) current and my driving current is 25mA to 70 mA. It seems to me there is not enough resolution for AD output to servo on close loop current control. Do i have to change gain of OpAmp designated OA2 on board ? Any insight/suggestions will be helpful.

Thank you,

SG

Hi everbody,

I have DRV3201EVM module and DRV8301-LS12-KIT. I am using Hercules TMS570LS12x/11x controlCARD for motor control applications and using TMS570ls1227_sensored_speed_smo solution with DRV8301. I could controlled speed/torque with CCS debug window and GUI composer. using TMS570ls1227_sensored_speed_smo.

I am using DRV3201EVM with GUI composer and need open source file. I need source and header files for control with CCS debug window.

Could you share with me these information.

hello,

My customer used the DRV8305 to develop the motor control board, now we met the issue is dead-time is not stable of DRV8305, The dead-time configured as 0.5us. but some time, there is no dead-time of DRV8305 output, and the HS and LS occur short in minute time.

Do you know why, and any comments for it? thanks very much!

the waveform as below:

1. correct waveform as picture one(purple and green line are the PWM input of DRV8305; yellow and blue are the PWM output of DRV8305 )

2. incorrect waveform as picture two(purple and green line are the PWM input of DRV8305; yellow and blue are the PWM output of DRV8305 )

Looking for a quadrature input position controller.

I am driving a piezo motor. Its’ driver uses step and direction inputs. The motor has a quadrature encoder that provides position feedback and one index signal provides the home sense position. I am looking for a simple controller with a USB interface that will provide position control using the encoder quadrature signals as feedback and step and direction as outputs to move the piezo motor. Can anyone point me to a reference design that would apply?

DRV8701E Question

Hi,

FAULT:

I am currently using DRV8701E in my application. I found that the FAULT line asserted when I first enabling the driver through SLEEP pin. Same thing happen when the driver is disabled. Is this an expected behavior?

VREF

AVDD of this driver has very loose voltage range. So the current chopping range will be loose as well if the VREF is reference to AVDD. Can I use external supply which has better tolerance as the reference voltage for VREF to achieve better accuracy?

DRV8301 in a eBike project

$

0

I'm planning to build a PMSM driver for a eBike with 16 LiFePO4 batteries in series, so the maximum battery voltage is reaching 3.6*16=57.6V when fully charged, and the voltage will quickly decline to approx. 52V and stays there until drained. I have chosen DRV8301 as the MOSFET pre-driver. So the questions -

1) Is it safe for the DRV8301 to be working at this near-limit of 60V? The other components such as MOSFETs or capacitors are up to 100V rated.

2) I've saw in the datasheet of DRV8301 8.1.1 Gate Driver Power-Up Sequencing Errata, it says that the SH_X pins (which are connected to the motor's phase) should not exceed 8.5V when EN_GATE is asserted with PVDD power already applied. Does that mean, if my PM motor is already spinning at a relatively high speed (so the generated phase voltage exceeds 8.5V) when I power up the gate driver, it will not work correctly?

Well that makes me think of a situation when I turn off the control power off for a moment without disconnecting the main power when the eBike is in motion, then it won't work anymore unless you stop the bike and restart the power! That's typical for a eBike because only control power can be switched off in order to save the cost of a large power switch or relay.
